About Charles
Charles Jeter is an environmental engineer who
served in the Reagan Administration from 1981
to 1986.  During this period, he was the Region
IV Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Administrator for the eight southeastern states,
Special Assistant for Ecology, and the Federal
Representative on the Ohio River Valley Water
Sanitation Commission.  Jeter was recommended
for the appointment by seven U.S. Senators;
Strom Thurmond (R-SC),  Mack Mattingly
(R-GA), Jeremiah Denton (R-AL), Jesse Helms
(R-NC), John East (R-NC), Thad Cochran
(R-MS) & Paula Hawkins (R-FL).

From 1967 to 1981, Jeter served at the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental
Control where he was director of the state's water pollution control program.  Since 1986, Mr.
Jeter has been employed in the private sector with an environmental engineering firm assisting
industry in protecting and preserving the quality of the environment.   

Charles Jeter is a native of Carlisle, SC in Union County and graduated from Union High School.  
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and biological sciences from Clemson
University in 1963 and earned his Master's degree in environmental engineering in 1971 from
Clemson. From 1965 to 1967, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army.    

Mr. Jeter has been married for 40 years to the former Helen Bohlen of Charleston, SC.  For the
past two decades they have lived in Greenville County but currently spend time living in both
Greenville and Union Counties.  Charles and Helen have three children and eight grandchildren.
